What is “the Geochemical Society of Japan”?

The Geochemical Society of Japan (GSJ) was established in 1953 to promote the advancement and development of geochemistry and its dissemination. Our activities include organizing an annual meeting, publishing journal (Geochemical Journal, an international peer-reviewed journal, and Chikyukagaku (Geochemistry), a Japanese journal since 1967), and promotion of international collaboration (Co-sponsorship of the Goldschmidt Conferences since 2003, MOU with many foreign academic societies in the world). Geochemistry is the field to understand any phenomena on the Earth and in the universe from elemental processes based on atomic and molecular scale analyses and simulations, which includes topics on dreams of human beings and on problems we face in the future such as climate change, natural resources, and disasters. Thus, Geochemistry covers various fields and interdisciplinary sciences and technologies, which include:

  • Cosmochemistry
  • Atmospheric Chemistry
  • Biogeochemistry
  • Organic Geochemistry
  • Isotope Geochemistry
  • Rock & Mineral Geochemistry
  • Petrology
  • Solid Earth Geochemistry
  • Hydrothermal Geochemistry
  • Volcanology
  • Marine Chemistry
  • Paleoceanography
  • Environmental Chemistry
  • Limnology
  • Geochronology
  • Multidisciplinary fields related to geochemistry
